Standards Standards

The full value of digital health will be realized only when health information systems are connected and able to be easily accessed and shared by authorized clinicians.

Health information standards are an integral piece in the clinical interoperability puzzle. Pan-Canadian standards provide the technical language and clinical terminology to enable the thousands of health care providers across the country to communicate and share health information in a consistent, safe and reliable manner. When used in digital health solutions, these standards:

  • Support members of the care team to accurately interpret and exchange information needed for safe and effective care
  • Facilitate clinical decision support through alerts and reminders
  • Enable data to be aggregated, with appropriate approvals, for clinical research, ultimately leading to better outcomes

Join the standards communities on InfoCentral and learn more about health information standards and clinical interoperability.

The full value of digital health will only be realized when health information systems are connected and easily accessible.
