Position Purpose

This role will support the General Counsel in managing legal issues across the organisation, principally in the areas of corporate/commercial law and health privacy law in the context of digital health.

Major Responsibilities

  • Drafting, amending and negotiating complex contracts and other legal documents, including but not limited to technology service agreements, license agreements, data sharing agreements and agreements funding pan-Canadian digital health initiatives.
  • Apply knowledge of privacy and data management requirements and best-practices to support business objectives and the Shared Pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap.
  • Advise on corporate governance, compliance, and risk management matters, including internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a watching brief on applicable legislation and regulations to inform enterprise and departmental activities.
  • May also be required to assist with corporate governance matters, including the preparation of board and governance documents.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Law degree (Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent) and licensed to practice law in Ontario.
  • Have a successful track record of 1 to 3 years of corporate/commercial legal experience gained in-house or with a well-regarded law firm.
  • Privacy, risk or compliance designation is an asset but not required. Experience working in the healthcare technology industry is also preferred.
  • Exceptional analysis, drafting, research and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple demands and activities.
