Infoway and Microquest Celebrate Milestone Achievement in Advancing Connected Care in Alberta

June 13, 2024 – Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) is proud to announce a significant milestone in the advancement of Connected Care through Infoway’s Vendor Early Implementer Program, achieved in partnership with Microquest and the Government of Alberta.

Infoway and Microquest Celebrate Milestone Achievement in Advancing Connected Care in Alberta

The program was created to propel the priorities outlined in the Shared pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap to create an interoperable health system, focusing specifically on the Patient Summary Initiative utilizing the Patient Summary Canada (PS-CA) specification.

The Vendor Early Implementer Program has been designed to accelerate the adoption of interoperable digital health solutions and allows participating vendors to validate their system conformance against specified standards, like the Patient Summary specification. This not only helps to advance Canadian interoperability, but greatly benefits vendors by supporting a more sustainable and efficient approach to national and local expansion.

The program is comprised of several milestones, each tailored to validate and support the implementation of vendor solutions to national conformance scope and jurisdictional infrastructure. Each milestone involves specific deliverables and assessments, ensuring that vendor systems meet predefined criteria and align with national and jurisdictional requirements. By completing these milestones, vendors demonstrate their readiness to contribute to the advancement of Connected Care, ultimately benefiting healthcare providers and patients across jurisdictions.

Infoway is excited to announce that Microquest, the first vendor signed on to the program, has surpassed a significant milestone by demonstrating their solution achieved conformance to the pan-Canadian Patient Summary Specification (PS-CA). Specifically, Microquest's "Healthquest EMR v4.4.50" has obtained conformance for version 1.1.0 of the Patient Summary specification (PS-CA 1.1.0 DFT-Ballot). This milestone is a significant achievement for Microquest and our efforts advancing Connected Care for both the residents of Alberta and Canada’s overall healthcare system.

"We are immensely proud to congratulate Microquest on being the first vendor to pass the pan-Canadian Patient Summary conformance testing,” said by Abhi Kalra, EVP of Connected Care at Infoway. “This milestone underscores the dedication and collaborative efforts of all teams involved, highlighting our collective commitment to advancing interoperable digital health solutions for the benefit of patients and healthcare providers nationwide."

Brandon Blanck, President/CEO at Microquest, shared, "We are honored to have achieved conformance for version 1.1.0 of the Patient Summary specification, marking a significant milestone in our journey toward supporting Connected Care. This accomplishment reflects our unwavering dedication to delivering innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes and streamline clinical workflows. We extend our gratitude to Infoway and the Government of Alberta for their invaluable collaboration throughout this process."

“Congratulations to Microquest on passing the pan-Canadian Patient Summary conformance test. This achievement marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to advance Connected Care in Alberta," said Adriana LaGrange, Alberta's Minister of Health. "This accomplishment demonstrates our commitment to improving patient outcomes across the province by digitally enabling primary health care."

This achievement paves the way for Microquest to now enter a tailored testing environment within Alberta’s healthcare infrastructure, to then eventual clinical adoption where vendor systems are actively used by Albertan clinics to submit Patient Summaries.
