Infoway issued the RFP to select a partner to help design, build and operate the technology infrastructure for PrescribeIT, a multi-jurisdiction e-prescribing solution that will enable prescribers to electronically transmit a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice. PrescribeIT is an important component of Health Canada’s Action on Opioid Misuse.
“We are pleased with the response to the PrescribeIT™ RFP process,” said Michael Green, President and CEO, Canada Health Infoway. “We are confident that our public-private approach incorporates the best of both worlds to create a system that protects patient health information and is accountable to Canadians and our federal and jurisdictional partners.”
The RFP was made available through MERX and was open to a wide range of potential vendors. There was strong interest from the industry and submissions are currently being reviewed. The preferred partner selection is expected to be completed by January 30, 2017.
The Government of Canada has committed significant policy and funding support to Infoway to establish PrescribeIT™ as an interoperable national e-prescribing service for Canadians. The PrescribeIT™ team is actively planning and working with the early adopter provinces (Alberta and Ontario), provincial regulators, privacy commissioners and experts, and retail pharmacy stakeholders to ensure the successful launch of the service. As a neutral third party, free of commercial interests, Infoway is best positioned to convene this complex group of stakeholders and to ensure their meaningful ongoing involvement as this important service for Canadians is established and scaled.
