Celebrating One Year of Electronic Prescriptions with PrescribeIT

(Toronto) — One year ago, the first prescription was transmitted from a doctor to a pharmacist through PrescribeITTM, Canada’s national e-prescribing service.

Since that momentous occasion in Huntsville, Ontario, the limited production release of PrescribeITTM has grown tremendously. PrescribeITTM is now working with physicians and pharmacies in multiple communities throughout Ontario and Alberta.

“We want to thank the doctors and pharmacists in Huntsville who helped us launch PrescribeITTM,” said Michael Green, President and CEO of Canada Health Infoway. “The Algonquin Family Health Team, Lakeview Physicians, North Muskoka Medical Clinic, North Muskoka Family Health, Remedy’s Rx Muskoka Medical Centre Pharmacy and Pharmasave Huntsville provided support and encouragement every step of the way. As a result, we are ready to expand the service so it can benefit people across the country.”

Agreements are in place with nine provinces/territories and expansion plans are ramping up. PrescribeITTM is working with 29 community pharmacy companies and more than 1,500 prescribers (representing more than 1.4 million patients) who are interested in the service.

PrescribeITTM enables community-based prescribers to electronically transmit a prescription to a patient’s pharmacy of choice, reducing the use of paper prescriptions. Developed to seamlessly integrate with existing electronic medical record and pharmacy management systems, PrescribeITTM is a not-for-profit solution that promises patient prescription data will never be used for commercial use. PrescribeITTM is committed to helping health care practitioners enhance patient safety, improve continuity of care, and facilitate better health outcomes.
