The new EMR vendors – Canadian Health System Inc.’s EMR Advantage®, KAI Innovations and Microquest Inc. will begin offering PrescribeITTM to their customers in fall/winter 2018. They will join TELUS Health’s EMRs PS Suite, which is currently offering the service in select communities, Med Access (available in spring 2018) and Wolf (available late summer 2018). PrescribeIT’s PMS vendor list now includes QuickRX (available fall/winter 2018). Their participation adds to the PrescribeITTM PMS roster that includes Kroll, which is also currently available in select communities. Discussions with other vendors are ongoing.
“We are pleased to be working with these EMR and PMS vendors,” said Michael Green, President and CEO of Canada Health Infoway. “With their participation, PrescribeIT™ will continue expanding the reach of the service across the country and is well on its way to eliminating the use of paper prescriptions in Canada.”
PrescribeITTM launched in August 2017 in Huntsville, Ontario and has expanded to Kingston and the Niagara region in that province, and moved into Lethbridge, Alberta earlier this year. Infoway is continuing to plan for the further roll-out of PrescribeITTM to additional communities.
Prescribers and pharmacists interested in implementing PrescribeITTM and in helping plan its deployment can complete a brief survey. To learn more about the service, please visit our website at www.PrescribeIT.ca.
About PrescribeITTM
Canada Health Infoway is working with Health Canada, the provinces and territories, and industry stakeholders to develop, operate and maintain the national e-prescribing service known as PrescribeITTM. PrescribeITTM will serve all Canadians, pharmacies and prescribers and provide safer and more effective medication management by enabling prescribers to transmit a prescription electronically between a prescriber’s electronic medical record (EMR) and the pharmacy management system (PMS) of a patient’s pharmacy of choice. PrescribeITTM will also help improve patient safety, reducing harm and costs associated with opioid misuse, while also protecting Canadians’ personal health information from being sold or used for commercial activities.
