“Supporting clinical students is vital to building the future of connected, efficient, and patient-centered healthcare in Canada,” said Abhi Kalra, EVP of Connected Care at Canada Health Infoway. “By equipping students with the knowledge and skills to drive interoperability and innovation, this scholarship is an investment in the future of healthcare delivery and system transformation. These students will help shape a more connected and efficient healthcare system, inspiring the next generation of leaders who will advance care for all Canadians.”
The successful recipients come from diverse clinical backgrounds, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and physiotherapy and represent institutions from across the country, including the University of Calgary, Memorial University Newfoundland, Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Toronto, and the University of New Brunswick.
Totalling an investment of over $75,000, the scholarship awarded up to $5,000 per student to help clinical learners interested in advancing their knowledge of digital health. Recipients will use the scholarship to pursue further education in programs covering a range of digital health subjects, including interoperability, terminology and exchange standards, electronic health records and health information systems, digital health innovation, healthcare data analytics, and digital health policy.
The Connected Care Clinical Student Scholarship is the second initiative from the Infoway Centre for Clinical Innovation in Digital Health (CIDH), which supports national efforts to accelerate the adoption of healthcare interoperability. Through the CIDH, Infoway continues to drive initiatives that encourage engagement and co-development with clinical leaders and learners, supporting the adoption of connected care solutions.

This improves care coordination, empowers patients to have a more active role in managing their health, and equips care providers with information and insights to support better care both at the point of care and throughout their patients' health journey. Most importantly, it modernizes our health care system towards a future with patient-centered care at its heart.
