2021 Virtual Infoway Partnership Conference – Maureen Abbott, Sapna Wadhawan and Liz Ashall-Payne – Progress, Lessons Learned, and Future Directions on Standards for Mental Health Apps in Canada

December 2, 2021

What criteria would you use for selecting a mental health app? The Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC)'s E-Mental Health team will discuss the MHCC’s progress made to date, lessons learned, and future directions on developing standards for mental health apps in Canada. The MHCC has identified a need to manage the rapid expansion of apps to help all people living in Canada make better informed decisions when seeking to meet their mental health care needs. This project, funded through Health Canada, builds from the MHCC’s app evaluation framework created in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, which sets guiding principles and assessment criteria to help people make more informed decisions on mental health apps. The MHCC is working with the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Applications on next steps, who will also be providing a brief overview of their organization and work.
