Research & Public Sector
Driving evidence-based decision-making and fostering interoperability in the health system.

Overview

Collaboration with the research community and public sector partners is essential to driving evidence-based decision-making and fostering interoperability, ensuring that data-driven insights and national standards work in tandem to create a seamless, informed, patient-centered health system.

Why we Work with Research & Public Sector Partners

Engaging the research and public sectors is crucial for advancing federal and jurisdictional mandates to improve data interoperability and patient and provider access to health information. Research communities provide the insights and evidence necessary to inform decision-making, while public sector partners set and drive foundational frameworks that guide healthcare mandates, including pan-Canadian health data standards. Together, these groups empower policymakers, healthcare providers, industry partners and patients with actionable information.

How We're Working with Research Partners

We work with local, national and international healthcare research communities, organizations and experts, with a focus on analyzing trends, outcomes, and opportunities to improve health systems, often leveraging large-scale surveys and performance metrics.

To complement these efforts, we deliver our own critical tools and resources. Infoway Insights serves as a hub for interactive data, providing timely surveys and reports that measure the impact of digital health initiatives. It also offers our Interoperability Maturity Dashboard, which tracks progress against the Shared pan-Canadian Interoperability Roadmap.

How We're Working with Public Sector Partners

On the public sector side, we collaborate with various local and national organizations to advance our mission of improving healthcare connectivity through the adoption of interoperable digital health solutions, the implementation of national standards, and the integration of innovative technologies.

We are working with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) to develop national health data and health data exchange standards that support seamless, accurate health information sharing across Canada, aligning with Health Canada’s vision of a modern, integrated health system.

CIHI's Pan-Canadian Health Data Content Framework, the first building block of the Roadmap, establishes essential data standards to ensure that health data is accurate, secure, and consistent. Together, Infoway and CIHI are driving toward a future where secure and efficient information flow enhances patient care, safety, and outcomes.
