Streamlining documentation and reducing administrative burden for primary care clinicians.

What is an AI Scribe?

AI scribes are digital tools powered by artificial intelligence and natural language processing that assist clinicians by transcribing and summarizing patient interactions in real-time. AI scribes reduce the administrative burden on clinicians by automating repetitive tasks such as documenting patient visits, updating medical records, and summarizing treatment plans.

Program Overview

Our AI Scribe Program is a national initiative that will fund one-year licenses for AI scribes to up to 10,000 eligible primary care clinicians, providing early adopters with access to tools that help improve documentation processes and streamline workflows.

We are collaborating with provinces and territories to implement the AI Scribe Program. Program availability, access, and execution may vary by jurisdiction, with each approach tailored to align with the unique needs of the region and clinical practice requirements.

Pan-Canadian Procurement Process

Following a cross-Canada Request for Pre-Qualification (RFPQ), we selected vendors for the program based on their ability to meet national standards and unique regional needs, support secure data sharing, meet clinical practice requirements, and align with our Roadmap. The rigorous evaluation criteria included vendor capabilities, privacy, cybersecurity, EMR integration, and clinical usability.

The selected vendors include: Autochart.ai (Aya Health Technologies), Empathia AI, CareWay (MEDFAR), Mikata Health, Mutuo Health Solutions, Pippen AI, ScribeBerry, Tali AI and WELL Health Technologies.

How do AI Scribes Support Interoperability?

Infoway prioritizes solutions that are interoperable, scalable, and sustainable, creating a foundation that benefits clinicians and patients alike. This approach includes ensuring AI scribes meet data exchange, cybersecurity, and usability standards.

The long-term goal of the AI Scribe program aims to empower clinicians to collect, use, and share patient health data more effectively and effortlessly, enabling easier participation in Connected Care initiatives while streamlining their daily interactions across the health system.
